Asset module - use as a forward-planning tool for equipment replacement?

Is there anyone using IQM or Q-Pulse that has adapted the Asset module to also provide a way to monitor and manage equipment replacement?
I come from a large Pathology company with a significant equipment list - many of the items on the list have a specific lifespan, with planned obsolescence required to ensure replacements are forecast and obtained in a timely manner.
The obsolescence plan is generally based on three elements - projected lifespan, current condition, and criticality. These elements are assessed and recorded on a regular basis so budget for replacement can be allocated.
Is there anyone with experience of using the Asset module to help monitor, record and report this?
