Updates to social media age restrictions
Hi there, I am new on here and this is my first post so hope I am in the right spot.
I am aware that on 10.12.2025 the legislation regarding the Social Media Age Restrictions become effective and I was looking to see if I could find an upcoming release updates for the Student Use of Social Media Policy and Procedures page in the Student Duty of Care Module but couldn’t find anything.
Any guidance is appreciated.

You’re right - the new laws say that, from 10 December 2025, certain social media platforms must take reasonable steps to ensure that people under 16 do not hold accounts.
Only certain social media platforms have obligations under the new laws.
The new laws only impose obligations on social media platforms, they do not impose any obligations on schools, students or parents/carers.
As obligations for schools are not changing, we won’t be making changes to the Student Use of Social Media Policy and Procedures.
