Hi ​@Beatrix B, one you open a document it will typically open in the application associated with the file type (e.g. Word documents open in Microsoft Word, Excel files will open in Microsoft Excel).  Once it is opened in this application downloading/printing cannot be fully controlled.

There are a couple of options:

1. If your files are all in Word format you can rollout the IQMP Word plugin. This would allow you to control permissions in the IQMP admin module.  However this would also require IT work to roll out the tool.
2. Depending on the file types you can force PDF conversion in the admin module.  This will force files to be displayed in the PDF viewer built into the system and activities can be controlled.

Thank you for the feedback ​@Alan Blair.  In our case, we don’t want to force PDF conversion, because we need document owners to retain access to the original editable format.
We would like the:
-document owners to be able download and edit the original file (e.g., .docx, .xlsx).
-basic users only view the document within the Ideagen tool using the “Viewer tab” – no download or print access.
Do you think there is a way to do this? Thank you very much for your help. 

Hi ​@Beatrix B The only way to do this would be using the convert to PDF.  This would force the users to access the document via the PDF viewer but you could still give owners access to edit the attachment which would grant them the ability to the original file.  There is a setting in admin to remove the original file so as long as this was not selected then you would be able to do this.
