People module – Event history, completed date & renew-by logic
Hi all,
I have a question regarding the People module, specifically how Event History works for recurring or renewable events.
In the Event History, I would like to add a new event of a certain type with:

a Completed Date, and
-
a Renew By date (for the next cycle).
Could someone clarify how the logic works in practice for reminders and escalation?
Once an event has both a Completed Date and a Renew By date, when do reminders stop? After the Completed Date is entered in a new event of the same type and has a completed date or I have to edit the same event with the new completed date and a new renew by? But by doing that I will lose historical record of previous event.

Great question, this is one of those areas that isn’t always obvious until you see it in action.
In practice, for renewable or recurring events in the People module:

You add an event with a Completed Date, and optionally a Renew By date.

The Renew By date is what drives reminders and escalations, and the timing (how many days before or after these are sent) is configurable in the Admin area.

Once the event is completed, reminders will continue until the renewal is addressed.
When it’s time to renew the event, the recommended approach is to:

Create a new event of the same type with its own Completed Date, evidence, and new Renew By date.

This ensures you retain the full historical record of previous events rather than overwriting them.
The system is smart enough to recognise that a newer event of the same type has been added, so it will stop sending reminders for the previous renewal and instead use the latest event as the next renewal cycle.
I actually tested this behaviour just now to double-check, and it works exactly as expected.
